The 2021 NOBULL CrossFit Open kicked off on Thursday, March 11, with the release of Open Workout 21.1. CrossFit General Manager of Sport Dave Castro announced the workout live from the CrossFit Home Office in Scotts Valley, California, as tens of thousands of fans tuned in to watch the stream on the CrossFit Games website, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch.
Waiting in earnest were four-time CrossFit Games individual competitor Kristi Eramo O’Connell and third-fittest woman on Earth in 2020 Kari Pearce. The two athletes went head-to-head on the workout just following the announcement and set the scores to beat around the world. After watching the impressive performance of two of CrossFit’s top-tier athletes, one thing is certain: Open Workout 21.1 is a doozy. An ascending couplet of wall walks — a movement never seen in the Open — and double-unders, 21.1 left Eramo O’Connell and Pearce with a mean shoulder pump.
Tune in next week on Thursday, March 18, for the release of Open Workout 21.2.
